The new release of my Privoxy actions file blocks the Google Analytics Web bug.
I'd previously expressed concern about Google getting into cross-site tracking (see third point in my email to Google, blogged on 2004-04-12) and haven't yet joined Google AdSense (see 2005-01-17).
Question posed to Randy Cohen's "The Ethicist" column this week, ("Reckless Parking"):
Last week I lent a friend a car while her husband was away on a fishing trip. Coincidently, a neighbor's wife was away that week. My car was seen in the neighbor's driveway overnight, easily recognizable because of my kid's college decals plastered on it. A few people have inquired about my car's being there overnight. How do I explain without ratting out my friend? C.W., Atlanta
The printed answer included:
The best way to protect your own reputation without either lying or betraying your friend is to say nothing. Just mumble vaguely and change the subject; these things have a way of blowing over.
Alternatively, have the matter written up in the New York Times Magazine. Nobody in Atlanta reads that.
If you're upgrading to Linux 2.6.x on a Debian box, and getting
error messages like the following in /var/log/syslog, you need to:
apt-get install module-init-tools

The New York Times and Judith Miller, a veteran reporter for the paper, reached an agreement today that ends her 28-year career at the newspaper and caps more than two weeks of negotiations.

Coincidentally, right after Karl Rove's job might be freeing up.
I'm new to this whole "allergies" thing, but I've always been a sucker for a petri dish.
